In a two-match Test series, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal now hold the record for the highest opening innings partnership by an Indian team. On the fourth day of the second Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain, the partnership accomplished this significant milestone.

In the second innings of the current game against the Portuguese West Indies, Rohit and Jaiswal quickly scored 98 runs after putting up a 139-run partnership in the first.

A new record for an Indian opening pair in a two-match Test series was set when their opening partners put on a partnership of 229 in the first test, contributing a total of 466 runs.

Graham Smith and Neil McKenzie, who teamed up against Bangladesh in 2008 for a two-match Test series, had the highest total of all opening partnerships with 479 runs. They established a powerful 415-run opening stand in one of their partnerships, which continues to be a Test world record.

Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan contributed 537 against Australia in 1979–1980 to set the record for India’s greatest opening combined total in a make-up series (of more than two Tests). Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, who amassed 477 runs against Pakistan in 2005, are right behind him in the standings.

In India’s second innings on Sunday, Rohit and Jaiswal showed off their offensive skills by batting at an incredible 8.28 run rate in a modest 50-run partnership. This is now the best run rate ever achieved by a top aggregate in a partnership that lasted at least 50 runs.

Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan of England, who batted at position 10 against Sri Lanka in 2002, currently hold the record for the greatest run rate by a pair of at least 45 runs.

Ishan Kishan (52*) and Shubman Gill (29*), who were both undefeated when India declared at 181/2 in the second innings, as well as Rohit Sharma (57) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (38) once more provided the foundation for the game with a 98-run partnership, and set the stage for the victory. At the end of day four, West Indies had a target of 365 to win and were 76/2.

Sunni Dinara, whose name was registered to Sri Lanka until last Sunday, held the record for 22 years till India’s pace bowling team shattered it.
In 12.2 overs (74 balls), India defeated Mitchell’s 100. The Sri Lankan team defeated Bangladesh in 13.2 overs (80 balls) at the Asian Test Championship in 2001, scoring 100 against them.

West Indies’ response to India’s 438 in the first innings was all out for 255 earlier in the game.
